For most of my life, I lived with a maddening contradiction.
 
I knew gratitude was the key to happiness. Every coach, spiritual teacher, self-help guru, and wellness expert I ever read or spoke with confirmed it. But no matter how hard I tried to "practice gratitude," it felt forced, fake, and ultimately made me feel worse.
 
How could I genuinely feel grateful when:
